Tangly Splines by Font Designer Zuzana Licko

Splines-Zuzana-Licko-font-designerLove this font, called Tangly Spines, by font designer Zuzana Licko, Emigre. Will be finding a fun way to use it! Thanks for your creative eye, Zuzana. Here’s a bit more about how it was designed.

Each character on the keyboard is a design element, and the elements connect at specific points. This is how connecting script font, except they would connect at all four edges, top and bottom, as well as left and right. If you lead this one together, a seamless pattern can be created. She started with a curved stroke, then rotated that stroke so the finished elements would all interconnect. Each group has symmetric, mirrored and asymmetric variants.

Licko began the design process in 2014, and worked on it sporadically over the next four years. During this time, she had various types of fabrics printed, and had jacquard fabrics woven to see how these patterns could be applied. Many of her patterns can be ordered as custom printed yardage, on a variety of fabrics, at Spoonflower. And, these fabrics can be sewn to order into pillows and other housewares at Roostery.
